Today's Dimestore Dame is the Blonde Phantom! Seriously, whenever I read her Golden Age comics, I just go all chin-handsy and go, "She's sooooo preeeeeeetty." Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel for some scans of her She-Hulk era appearances!

And now, the sad number of books I read in November.

[Citation Needed]: The Best of Wikipedia's Worst Writing by Josh Fruhlinger & Conor Lastowka -- This was $1 on Amazon, so what the heck? It was genuinely laugh-out-loud, but the ebook itself was kind of shoddy (lots of typos), and it took all of, like, an hour to read.

The Professor and the Madman by Simon Winchester* -- Aubiobook that told the story of two of the most important contributors to the Oxford English Dictionary project. One was a man of humble background who rose to the position of editor based on his natural intelligence and love of language. The other, an affluent American Civil War veteran who was a longtime resident of an insane asylum. It was pretty interesting, as was the bonus interview with the current editor of OED, who discusses how they still get outside submissions of words.

The President is a Sick Man by Matthew Algeo -- I love me some presidential history, and this particular topic was pretty juicy. Shortly after beginning his second term of office, Grover Cleveland was diagnosed with an oral tumor. The book chronicles the secret operation that resulted and the state of the country at the time, which explains the need for the elaborate cover-up.

Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick* -- An audiobook in honor of Thanksgiving! It happened to be read by the authoritative voice of the History Channel, so frankly the historian could have all made this stuff up off the top of his head and I would have taken it for fact. At times, it's an uplifting story, especially when it's discussed that the Plymouth settlers actually tried really hard to honor their treaties with the local Native Americans and keep on good terms with them. But then there's the rest of the time.

Devonshire by Lynne Connolly -- Second book in the Richard & Rose series. Here, Richard and his twin come to visit his fiancee, Rose, at her home. But there are outlaws and smugglers causing trouble! And also SMOOCHES. This took me a little bit to get into, but once I started getting into it, I was absolutely hooked. The ending is kind of awesome in a daaaaaamn, that just happened? sort of way.

Kristy's Big News by Ann M. Martin -- Her dad is getting married! Kristy has feelings about this.

Regretsy's Big Book of Fabricated Folktales from Finland by April Winchell -- NGL, 90% of the reason I bought this book was to get April Winchell's autograph. SHE'S THE VOICE OF DISNEY'S CLARABELLE COW, OKAY? If that's not a good reason to spend $25, I don't know what is.

I've never friended you on Facebook either. ;)

(See, I wouldn't even wanna be friends with her, either, so. This is why I don't have a Facebook.)

The President Is a Sick Man sounds kind of awesome. (Especially when I looked it up and realized it has the longest subtitle EVER. Subtitles for the win!) Clearly I must read it.

And there is nothing like rereading BSC books. The fun! The girl!bonding! The crazy, crazy outfits!
