My holiday weekend started off early, when I was allowed to leave at 2 PM. I raced out the door, hightailed it to Brooklyn, and spent way too much money at DSW in celebration. I bought a new purse and snow boots. Which is funny because I specifically told myself I wasn't getting a whitish purse, which it is, and would not be looking at any shoes at all, which obviously did not happen. Way to go, me.

But the purse fits so perfectly on my shoulder! My fellow women, you know how important this is, amirite? And the shoes are so cuddly warm. And I had a $10-off coupon! Deals are my greatest weakness. Also, french fries.

Now, would you please indulge me?

I saw HP7 with [livejournal.com profile] suyari today! I've only read the book once, way back when it was released, so I can't remember a lot of omissions that I'm sure would otherwise make me indignant, and others I simply don't care about. So, for the most part, I enjoyed it! Yay!

Also, now I have a crush on Xenophilius, wtf.

Also also, I just got my Yuletide assignment, and my head is already swirling with ideas. Yay yay yay yay yay.

I saw HBP tonight. It was long.

I would post more in-depth and (possibly) intelligent thoughts on it, except I woke up today with a very sore hip that throbbed off and on all day, unless I was sitting in very particular positions. So by the end of work, I was incredibly sore, and sitting through a 2.5+ hour movie was kind of torture. I mean, the movie wasn't the best thing I ever saw, but it could have been two hours of just Jim Broadbent (ILU SLUGHORN), and I still would have been achy and uncomfortable.

Now to go off and lay in a ball for the night.
mizzmarvel: (lockhart = me - iconzicons)
Tonight I saw this guy and I couldn't stop staring at him because he reminded me of someone, but I didn't know who. So I stared and stared, and I probably made him very uncomfortable, until finally it hit me:

He looked like an exact melding of Remus and Sirius. I mean, their movie versions, not just some random idea in my head. Sirius' skinny build and curlyish hair and nose and notverycleanlookingness with Remus' coloring and eyes and perv-stache. He even had a few scars. A perfect mix.

It was unsettling, but probably moreso for the poor guy who got stared at forever by weirdo over here.
mizzmarvel: (mizzmarvel = hot stuff)
Happy thing for the day: O is for the Onion, specifically this Onion article. REMUS/SIRIUS, ANYONE?

Also, tonight I apparently feel like being girly? I took a shower tonight (as opposed to tomorrow) so I have time to flat iron my hair in the morning, I shaved my legs, I played a little bit with some new makeup samples I was sent, and I repainted my fingernails dark purple. What's wrong with me? When I wake up tomorrow, I'll probably just go, "Eff it," and sleep in an extra ten minutes rather than make myself purty.

Tonight after work, Heather and I and a few of her friends went to go see We Are Wizards, a documentary about Harry Potter fandom culture, with a particular emphasis on Wizard Rock. It was really interesting and entirely too entertaining, particularly the segments with Brad Neely, who now may own my soul.

Anyway, it was hilarious, for the most part intentionally, and we laughed really hard -- perhaps too much so -- and thus I was a little weirded out that, as we were leaving, I possibly spotted one of the guys in Harry and the Potters in the audience? (The audience consisted of maybe ten people total, so this was not very hard to do.) So, um, I hope he knows we weren't laughing at his adorable awkwardness, but rather with it? (If it was him. It could have been a guy who looks exactly like him. And happened to be watching a Wizard Rock documentary featuring his doppleganger.)

Beforehand, we had Wendy's. I have not had Wendy's since I moved here, so it was a pretty perfect night.

The cat is out of the bag, so I'm not going to cut this.

Just for clarification - did JKR ever actually say that Dumbledore only has an unrequited love? Because a lot of people seem to be upset over this, but in the articles I have read, she only seems to be saying that he had an unrequited love for Grindelwald, it obviously didn't end well, and...period. Not that he remained celibate forever after or never found love again. I mean, it's possible for the big love of your life to be one-sided, and for you to be able to go on with life and find happiness with other people.

But I mean, yeah, a lot of people are saying that he only had that one love, and I'm wondering if I'm missing a source with a more complete transcript? I just want to be clearer about the situation before I allow myself to get upset.

That being said, I can certainly understand how people are inferring that this is what she meant. In JKR's world, everyone apparently has one significant other, two tops, and she didn't mention anyone else.

Also, this morning our Internet (and cable) went kablooey. At work at the moment, and hopefully by the time we get back home it'll be up again, but yeah! FYI.
mizzmarvel: (rembrandt - now with 3-armed ladiez)
What do you do when you see a photo of an Old West prostitute who looks startlingly like someone you know? Do you just chuckle and move on with life? Do you tell her? Will she be amused (I would be), or offended? What do you tell her if she gets angry? "Well, I'm sure she had a heart of gold," or "But Miss Kitty was cool"?

Come to think of it, though, if someone doesn't find it hilarious that they look exactly like an Old West prostitute, they're no friend of mine.

ETA: Huh! (HP spoilers! Kind of. Well, not really. I think a lot of us suspected.)

I really need to get better at replying to comments. Blah.

I also need to thank [livejournal.com profile] kayim for the lovely postcard I received from Cedric Diggory, thanking me for my support in the Triwizard Tournament! It even had a HP stamp on it. I love it, thank you - it's now on my cubicle wall at work.

Lastly, I also need to make note that I bought the Mary Anne Saves the Day graphic novel today. It's way cute - probably my favorite of the three. Richard magically has facial hair like I've always pictured and Dawn is adorable (though she is shown to already have four ear piercings - bad form). The triplets have prominent chins, which I'm a little leery of, but hey! Byron sticks his tongue out at Mallory adorably. Good show.
mizzmarvel: (neville stands out - iconzicons)
Well, that subject sounds exciting, doesn't it? Anyway, in the spirit of the First Kiss memes...

This is a meme that will almost certainly produce Deathly Hallows spoilers. The explanation really doesn't have any, but for paranoia's sake, I'm cut tagging it )

The blame credit for this idea goes to [livejournal.com profile] khirsah. I don't expect much response to this, but wouldn't it be great?
mizzmarvel: (weasley twins - kings of seventh grade)
It looks like everyone and their mom finished DH before I did. Mine came at about 1 PM EST, delivered by a UPS man who probably wished me and every other person who ordered their copy from Amazon a very thorough death.

I'm going to try to keep my reactions brief.

Spoilz )

In somewhat related news, while I read the damn thing, [livejournal.com profile] khirsah spent the same six hours writing me some Marauders-era Remus/Sirius. Chapter one of about nine jillion is apparently close to being posted. BEST ROOMMATE EVER.
mizzmarvel: (cedric needs support)
Yeah, so the last HP book comes out on Saturday! Last of the series and all.

Please don't fuck it up for me.

With HBP, I did end up getting spoiled (someone immediately posted fic, and from the posted pairings I was able to connect the dots), so I'll likely be staying away from my flist until the book is finished. It does concern me that the book may or may not be leaked already, so spoilers are possible even now. Just please, please be vigilant about cuts. I'd really like to get through this book unspoiled.

And also, please be considerate of people who cannot read the book as soon as it hits the shelves. My book is supposed to be delivered to me July 21, but who the hell knows for sure, and I know that others won't be able to afford it/get to a bookstore/etc. I hate it when fans assume that if you don't view the material immediately, you're not worthy of being unspoiled. Because, yeah, guess what? I've actually encountered that. People are pricks. Please don't accidentally be one too.

I finally saw it tonight. And, you know, I liked it. It was a lot of fun. Granted, I went in not anticipating a great movie, which probably helped.

Package today from [livejournal.com profile] caia_comica, full of Superboy and Robin issues I've been needing. SO AWESOME, THANK YOU. Did these really come out of the 25 cent bin? Because that ROCKS. It's always amazing to add comics you've been looking for to your collection, but knowing they cost next to nothing is just icing on the cake!

Further bargains today - Hot Topic was having a sale, so I was able to get my dad's girlfriend a late Hanukkah present for half off (look, he told me she'd like something from there) and a shirt for me; it's been a long time since I've been able to look at something in Hot Topic and actually consider wearing it.

Then I went to the Foster Care Auxiliary, and not only did I pick up a BSC book I still needed (Jessi's Horrible Prank - I think that's the last Jessi book I needed), but also four new hardback YA novels that had been discarded from a library. Total cost? $1.

Lastly, this has nothing to do with anything, but I saw this van on the freeway and had to snap a grainy, just-spotted-Bigfoot quality photo:

The license plate reads "KNT BUS." The frame, which is unreadable here, says "GRYFFINDOR QUIDDITCH TEAM." This is a level of geekiness even I have to shy away from.
mizzmarvel: (snape is a badass - ungratefulwench)
Guy 1: "Who was the bad guy in Harry Potter? Darth Sidious?"

Guy 2: "What?"

Guy 1: "You know, the guy who escaped from prison."

Guy 2: "Sirius Black?"

Guy 1: "Yeah. Did Harry Potter kill him?"

Guy 2: "Uh, no."

Guy 1: "What a pussy."

I had the most horrible fic idea at work today. When the concept first popped into my head, I was all, 'Oh, Mackenzie, what a lark! You can be so very whimsical when you've been staring at a computer screen and listening to answering machines messages all day!'

But then the idea grew.

Oh God, I am on crack.
mizzmarvel: (ron weasley IS the golden girls)
[livejournal.com profile] entwashian asked for something about dragons yesterday. I...don't think [livejournal.com profile] entwashian cares a whit about Harry Potter, but this is what I came up with. I'm very sorry.

But at least it's one hundred words exactly!

Scandal! )

No, really, I'm working.

Tonight I actually went out and had fun. Bunch of us ([livejournal.com profile] _malarky_, [livejournal.com profile] cheeseloaf9000, [livejournal.com profile] scalderwood, [livejournal.com profile] niccolo5687, and [livejournal.com profile] itsnotseven, among others) played Trivial Pursuit (Team Titans lost) and Catch Phrase (Team Kissy Boots remained undefeated!) for hours. Then we got into homemade Pictionary for a while. Here's one of my masterpieces:

It was guessed surprisingly quickly )

And now I eat candy. Thank you.

PS - It was 50 F when I got up this morning, and is now 31 F with an icy wind and scattered bouts of snow. WTF, Indiana. WTF.
mizzmarvel: (bat-starry night - poisonivory)
Well, I'm in Evansville again. Yay.

I want to say thank you to all the people who sent me a holiday card of some sort. See, my school, which in the past has forwarded mail during the winter break? Decided not to this year, apparently. So I got to open a lot of cards tonight. Also, um, a few that came back to me Return to Sender. So a couple of you might get some really late cards.

So thanks [livejournal.com profile] sageness, [livejournal.com profile] balletprincess, [livejournal.com profile] chicken_queen, [livejournal.com profile] z_squared82, [livejournal.com profile] nepenth, [livejournal.com profile] thuri (yes, I do want to RP Byron/Jeff!), and [livejournal.com profile] maelithil (who wins for Most Hilarious).

And in keeping with the holiday theme, here is the card I sent for the multi-fandom card exchange, the name of which I can't remember. The person requested Sirius Black, among other things, so that is what she got. Art by the amazing and much-missed (damn you Harlaxton) [livejournal.com profile] poewolf.

Front o' card )

Inside o'card. Not as funny as when I wrote it at 2 AM. )

Lastly, a poll:

First off: going to the midnight screening at IMAX was WIN. It was sort of crap at first - the theatre was atrociously loud, mostly from the music being played, but the first 20 or so of us in line got free posters, which was comforting. Later, the theatre majors showed up, with costumes ranging from the Trio, Mad Eye, Remus and Sirius, Crookshanks, Madame Pomfrey, James-and-Lily waving-wistfully-from-a-portrait, and the Goblet itself. Lots more, too, and all were fairly excellent. I got to hold hands with Tonks ([livejournal.com profile] gardeniamoon) during the movie. :) There'll be pictures of all that once people send me them.

Now for actual movie stuff.

Very disjointed opinions. Yeah, spoilers. )
