mizzmarvel: (namora is golden age gorgeous)
As seen all over my flist:

I think it would be fun to talk about stories, but the usual memes are like, "What happens next?" "Tell me about Character A?" Which isn't so much talking about stories as it is writing more of a story. But you know how sometimes you read something and you're like, "I got ___ out of this story, I wonder if that right?" or "What on earth was ____ supposed to be?" and it's too awkward to ask the author? Now you could totally ask!

I've heard people say that writing is hard because you have to make decisions, but we never really talk about the decisions we make with stories or why we make them. We talk about plot bunnies, but not about how we actually turn them into a story.

And it seems like a lot more fun to do that than to do working.

So, if you wanted, ask me questions! Or ask your flist to ask you questions.

What were you trying to do [here]? Why did you decide to ____? This is what I thought about xyz, is that what you were going for? What made you write ____? And so on.

They were filming White Collar in my work neighborhood today -- the crew was clogging up my Subway, in fact -- and I actually followed a sign pointing out the way to the set for like half a block before I came to my senses and went back to work.

Because, I mean, look. I wanted to gaze upon Bryce Larkin.* Is that so wrong?

* I have no idea what his White Collar character name is; I've never actually seen it

P.S. Click below, tell me what fics, characters I write, etc. that you like best! I will smile like this as a result -- :DDD

the that's my favorite! meme

I thought this meme looked interesting:

Comment with two characters I'm familiar with, and I'll tell you how they first kissed.

I'm too uninteresting and tired to think of anything to say today. Carry on, y'all.
mizzmarvel: (madrox: dancing queen - iconnaissance)
Excerpted from the original post:

1. Comment with your username.
2. People will reply to your comment anonymously, pretending to be a fictional character who expresses their love for you. It would be preferable if the comment was "signed" by the fictional character, to avoid any confusion.
3. HAVE FUN! Be silly.

Comment here!

Here's a meme I've seen all over my flist:

Give me a character, a series, or a pairing and in return I'll give you three reasons why I love that character, that series, or that pairing (unless of course I don't love that character, that series, or that pairing, in which case I guess we'll just sort of stare awkwardly at each other through the internet).
mizzmarvel: (marvel girls - icon_teahouse)
Taken from a few people:

Comment with the name of a female character (in any show, movie, book, comic, etc that you think I'm familiar with) and I'll tell you one thing I love about her. In return, you can do the same in your journal (if you like!).

Now, to plan my evening. Should I, A) Start working on my freelance?; or, B) Sit around eating Gobstopper Snowballs and reading trashy YA novels?

I think we know the answer.
mizzmarvel: (penguins - not jamie madrox but could be)
I felt not-awesome all day and still feel a little ooky. Like, I just hurt, and it was like my head never recovered from being asleep or something. I don't know. Maybe I'm still recovering from vacation.

Anyway, I'm too blah to think straight, so I just stole this meme from [livejournal.com profile] ungratefulwench:

Leave a ONE WORD comment that you think best describes me. It can only be one word. No more than one word. Then copy & paste this post to your own journal so I can leave a word about you.

Name a fandom and I'll tell you 3 pairings I love, 2 pairings I consider shipping, and 1 pairing I hate.

The way I just ruined my half-assed Halloween costume was so stupid, yet so hilarious, that I don't know whether I'm going to laugh or cry. At some point, I'm going to have to share pictures of it, but for right now I'm just mad at myself.

Anyway, from [livejournal.com profile] queenitsy:

Ask me either a broad question (i.e 'who is your cruelest character?', 'what is your most optimistic story?') or a specific question/request ('what world does ___ come from?', 'tell me about ___') and I will answer you. Or you can ask meta- questions like 'what was the inspiration for creating ____?'

A malevolent elephant.

Also, stolen from various flisters:

1.) Comment with any character you know I've written.
2.) Receive three bits of trivia about their sexuality: practices, preferences, experiences, fantasies, kinks, etc.
3.) Profit!

Also also, to do this weekend:

mizzmarvel: (mauling is a lucrative career-entwashian)
My friend Heather and I were so happy about the ending of Top Chef Masters tonight that we screamed like little girls and double high-fived each other repeatedly. Now that's good reality TV.

Also, from [livejournal.com profile] poisonivory and [livejournal.com profile] queenitsy:

The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write in (or think I should), and give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, Ancient Rome, etc). I will then explain what story from your chosen fandom I would write for your chosen type of AU.
mizzmarvel: (bow - stopnoise)

Ask any character I've written for advice, and they will provide it, advice columnist style. Your problems or fictional characters' problems both welcome. Management is not responsible for the results of following said advice.

I think most of you have a handle on who I write.

Grabbed this from [livejournal.com profile] glockgal:

Ask me anything: all types of fannish opinions, good, bad, and ugly. I'm screening all comments so ask me anything fannish-related and I'll answer (in a separate post) with complete honesty. Any TV show/book/movie that you're pretty sure I've mentioned in the past is fair game, as are thoughts on general themes and trends in fandom/fiction, lists of loved/hated characters, thoughts on ships, whatever.

I took out the part about screening comments because I don't care and can't see how other people would, but if you want to ask something embarrassing, you can always email me.

Welcome to the 2008 edition of getting to know your friends! Try not to be lame and spoil the fun! If you get tagged, copy this entire survey and paste into your own blog, change all of the answers so that they apply to you.

I cut all the other instructions because they were hella long. I don't tend to do surveys because I have no attention span and also I am boring, but here goes. Got it from [livejournal.com profile] glockgal.

Stole this from [livejournal.com profile] lizzypaul:

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you!

Sign I may be watching too many Discovery Health documentaries: when I recognize the ten second appearance of a participant of a doc in a crowd scene of another. But I'm sorry, Kenadie's dad is just very distinctive!
mizzmarvel: (psych - entwashian)
Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] caia_comica - choose a couple of my LJ icons, and I will:

a) write a drabble for them, or
b) write some sort of meta for them of at least 100 words, or
c) post music that thematically fits in with the icon and babble about why, or
d) post a detailed synopsis of the epic story I could imagine writing based on them, or
e) something else along these lines.

ETA: And now I see a problem with the vagueness of the directions. If you pick more than one, I'll presume you want an amalgam of them. Which could be both hilarious and horrifying.

1. Think of the first word that comes to mind when you think of me.
2. Go to Google Images and search for that word.
3. Reply to this post with one of the pictures on the first page of results.
5. Put this in your own journal so that I can do the same.

Also, so the post is somewhat more contentful (though no less uninteresting), I spent too much money today. We went to Ross, where I bought a shirt and a pair of jeans - the shirt because I happened to kind of think it was cute (this purchase might have been a mistake, in retrospect) and the jeans because several pairs of my old jeans seem to be in various stages of slow disintegration, and they were only $12 anyway.

When I walked into the dressing room to try them on, I realized that the bulk of the wardrobe today - blouse, sweater, pants, even socks - was purchased from one Ross or another. Then I lol'd. I really do love my stupid discount store.

And at Target, I randomly bought a Burt's Bees School Survival Kit, which contains two small bars of soap, a jar of facial scrub, a jar of hand creme, an herbal blemish stick, a bottle of lotion, and a tube of lip balm. I have this thing where I always covet Burt's Bees but never buy any because it's too expensive, so yeah. Done now. It was on sale, at least.

Countdown meme )
mizzmarvel: (spaceghost vs michael stipe - valdezicon)
I don't think I've done this meme before, or at least in a very long time. Stole it from [livejournal.com profile] yoritomo_reiko.

Step 1: Put your iTunes or equivalent on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 50 35 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing. (Um, basically I kept adding lyrics until I was bored out of my mind, hence cutting it short very randomly.)
Step 3: Strike out the songs when someone guesses the titles and artists correctly and put the name of the song/who sings it and the username of the person who guessed it at the end of the lyric.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

Lyrics ahoy )

First, a meme stolen from [livejournal.com profile] pre_emptive:

Reply to this post, and I will write one thing I love about you. Maybe more than one. Then (if you want) repost to your own journal and spread the love.

Secondly, a rec! [livejournal.com profile] quirkytaverna has written a wonderful Byron/Jeff fic, A Perfectly Good Memory Ruined By Air Supply. (I'd love the title even if I hadn't read the fic.) Like, seriously, I didn't even have to get more than halfway through to realize that it had already become one of my top five favorite B/J fics of all time. Jeff's voice is done wonderfully, she has a different spin on Byron than one normally sees, and their banter is really awesome. A++

Also, we saw Wanted today, since being unemployed means lots of spare time to go see movies. It was a lot of fun to watch, even if the "twist" was kind of obvious from about two seconds in. I recommend it if you're into smart, witty action movies. Very violent, of course, so maybe avoid if you mind seeing a lot of blood.
