a wet...

Still no comment from my Yuletide recipient. :(

I did, however, survive giving my cat a bath tonight. The day after Christmas, she surprised me with the gift of a disturbing amount of dandruff, which wasn't coming out through brushing, so it had to be done. She cried, I cried, no one got scratched, surely only through angelic intervention. Afterwards, it took three hours, a wet food treat, some cat nip, and the heat cranked up the speed up drying time, but I think she's finally forgiven me. And her hair does look better.

I wonder what would happen if I used pet shampoo on my own hair.

One of my Yuletide gifts may have just caused me to buy a few 1602 trades. And by a few, I mean all of them. Even the first one, which I already own in comic book form. And I also really, really need to rewatch Captain America asap. Seriously, this is pretty much how I feel about Yuletide this year: <3___<3

But the person for whom I wrote has yet to comment on my fic. I hope they're just on vacation or something and that they don't just hate the story.

I'll write something up about Christmas presents and their awesomeness later. But first: the Yuletide Fairy has been very, very good to me this year. I got two incredibly awesome, amazing stories that were everything I wanted.

The Same, but More -- a Captain America (2011) story set midway through the movie, in which Steve is shy and uncertain and Bucky is aggressive yet guarded. SEXY TIMES ENSUE.

the lay of your lands -- a Marvel 1602 fic in which John Storm and Peter Parquagh have adventures and tell stories and fall in love. Totally gorgeous.

Still working on my Yuletide story, but I think there may finally be an end in sight. In the meantime, here, have an $8 Target Christmas tree:

Featuring cards from [livejournal.com profile] thepastperfect (which has an AWESOME cartoon of Byron and Jeff), [livejournal.com profile] osprey_archer, [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel, and [livejournal.com profile] lauren5678 and a present AND cookies from [livejournal.com profile] poisonivory. (Best madeleines in the world or best madeleines in the world? Oh my Goooooood.)

The Hello Kitty stocking is for my cat. Obviously.

My Yuletide story is finished! *struts around*

Now maybe I'll actually have time to do holiday cards this weekend. They still might show up late, but at least they'll be ready for Decemberween.

Tonight is a Yuletide-writing night. I'm completely done writing more than half of it; one part will need some extensive editing, I think, but the jist is down, and I need to write one more section. But still! Progress, she is being made.

One part was incredibly hard to get how I wanted it, but once I managed to get on the right track, it came out perfectly. It felt exactly as if I had just gone through a breech birth and was now exhaustedly looking down at my healthy newborn. Because clearly I have gone through that and know what it's like. Yep.

In short, writing is hard and I fully expect a parade when this is done.

Speaking of writing, [livejournal.com profile] poisonivory and I kind of bantered with this dude at the comic book store today, and after a few minutes of trying to place where I recognized him from, realized that he was a Marvel writer and I'd met him at a signing once. And after a fact, I deeply regretted not being like, "TELL YOUR BOSS TO GIVE ONE JOB TO ME AND A HUNDRED EXTRAS TO GIVE OUT TO ALL MY FRIENDS. This isn't being pushy, right?"

things!

I saw HP7 with [livejournal.com profile] suyari today! I've only read the book once, way back when it was released, so I can't remember a lot of omissions that I'm sure would otherwise make me indignant, and others I simply don't care about. So, for the most part, I enjoyed it! Yay!

Also, now I have a crush on Xenophilius, wtf.

Also also, I just got my Yuletide assignment, and my head is already swirling with ideas. Yay yay yay yay yay.

Yuletide went well last year, so I'm trying it again!

Dear Yuletide Author )
mizzmarvel: (jessi doubts - entwashian)
Way back when, when I got my Yuletide assignment, I was a bit vexed about what I was going to do. My recipient wanted femmeslash. I don't write it a lot, but I can do it. She also wanted characters I've never written for, but fifteen years of continuously reading BSC books has pretty well prepared me for writing any and all characters in the series. She also wanted a story that was happy.

That was what tripped me up. I had a million ideas for depressing or at least bittersweet fic, but nothing overtly happy. But I didn't want to be a jerk, so I put my nose to the grindstone and tried my best. The first attempt was so awful that I can't bring myself to share it. It also wasn't totally happy anyway. But the second, I felt, was pretty decent. I only abandoned it because I realized it was going to be way too long to finish in time. But in case you're curious, here it is.

The untitled Abby/Dawn project )

...it's always a good sign when I stop mid-sentence. For some reason, I just can't do BSC wedding fic. This is the second one I've dropped despite liking the idea. The first was Byron/Jeff (they weren't the ones getting married).

To start with, you're awesome )
